A Matthew Hilton Balzac sofa for SCP
A classic example of 20th Century design and one of the finest sofas to emerge in post war Britain
Originally dating to 1995 the Bazac has rapidly become a contemporary design classic
Taking his cue from the Art Deco armchairs and sofas found in clubs and lounges in the 1930 Hilton has designed an elegant, comfortable and iconic piece of furniture.
Still manufactured in Norfolk in the UK
Solid Beech frame with a foam and duck feather filling. American Oak legs and upholstered in a soft Utah aniline leather.
Offered in a lovely vintage condition with great patina. The sofa has a wonderful antique, vintage and lived in look and is very comfortable.
If you are after a new sofa this is not for you but if you are looking for a vintage, lived in and loved piece then this is ideal.
The aniline leather is specifically used on the Balzacs to enable a more vintage look to emerge over time. Aniline leather is now no longer used on new Balzac sofas being replaced by a Sorensen leather.
