Peter Hvidt and Orla Molgaard Nielsen AX chair for Fritz Hansen
A wonderful example of mid 20th century design and one of the finest examples of post war Scandinavian design.
Originally designed in 1947 the AX chair is a true Danish design classic.
Hvidt and Molgaard Nielsen worked together for 30 years but their most iconic piece was the AX Chair, introduced to the world in 1950 and exhibited as part of the 1951 “Good Design” show at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
The Ax chair was also the first chair to use a double curve of laminated wood – please see close up photos.
