An Afternoon Tea teacup and saucer for Wedgwood.
Incredibly rare bone china from 1938.
This is only the second piece I have seen from the Afternoon Tea series of designs in over 25 years. The only other example I can currently find is in the V&A museum.
Ravilious enjoyed drawing the harvest festival scenes and produced designs for the Cornhill Magazine in 1936, The Countrywoman’s Year in 1937 and The Natural History of Selborne in 1938.
It is from this series of woodcuts that Ravilious used for his design for the teacup and saucer for Afternoon Tea.
It’s a truly beautiful piece and free from any chips, nicks, restoration or damage and only has very light signs of use.
